2016 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR (Direct Care/Line Staff)
Sara Walch, Team Lead, Pittsburg Supported Living Site
Nomination #1 – Sara has worked with the ladies at the Pittsburg house for approximately 8 years. She has worn many hats since beginning as a CLI. Under the CLI hat, Sara worked diligently helping to create PBSPs and goals in order to enhance the lives of those she supports. She orchestrates a staggering amount of community based activities for the ladies to enjoy. As a Team Lead, she advocates for the ladies and the staff. She works daily on assisting the ladies to grow as self-advocates while developing natural relationships within the community. She is a peer coach and is instrumental in making new employees feel part of the team. Sara also stepped in as the business manager supporting 2 participants in self-employment. This in itself is a big job. She is responsible for finding venues, setting up shows, transportation, web site development, helping participants buy supplies, banking, marketing, and accounting. Sara was asked to lead the STA Artist Collaboration Project which kicks off November 1, 2016. This will offer an opportunity which any artist with a disability can display their art in the STA Administration building until the downtown plaza has been completed. Once downtown, STA will participate in the First Friday activities, giving artists additional exposure. Recently, Sara also joined the Advocacy Committee and worked with the team to present the 2nd Annual Wings for Autism in partnership with Alaska Airlines. This is a fabulous program allowing families the opportunity to experience airline travel at no cost to them. I am recommending Sara as Employee of the Year due to her dedication and commitment to The Arc of Spokane.
Nomination #2 – Since becoming team lead at Pittsburg, Sara has shown much wisdom when working with her staff. Sara easily listens to her staffs’ ideas and tries to create a team environment. Sara shows appreciation to her staff by helping whenever needed and letting staff know their doing a great job. Sara is willing to try new things that will be beneficial to the clients. The best thing about Sara is she admits her mistakes and deals with it as a learning experience. Sara not only dedicates herself as a team lead but goes out of her way to make sure two of her clients succeed in their business. Kudos for Sara!
Endorsement – Sara began her CLI career with The Arc of Spokane in 2007 and was promoted to Team Lead in October 2015. She has been instrumental in establishing goals and assisting the staff through Therap. As a peer coach, she has flexed her schedule to accommodate training as needed and has been a great role model for new staff. Sara has managed two participants in self-employment for a couple of years and works diligently with a third participant to try to create the same opportunity. Sara is a strong advocate for all participants in our program and has been willing to share her knowledge to those who seek her out. She has served on several committees that promote inclusion in the community. Sara is committed to the SL mission and truly believes in promoting independence for those we support. Sara’s integrity has made her a trusted member of the team and The Arc of Spokane! She deserves your vote for Employee of the Year!

2016 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR (Leadership)
Tammy Cloninger, Pittsburg Supported Living Site Manager
Nomination – Tammy has filled in as a manager at a different house. She has been great at helping new managers with anything they need. Tammy is passionate about what she does and works tirelessly to advocate for all participants. She has assisted her participants in realizing their dreams. Tammy speaks up about subjects she is passionate about even if what she says is not popular. Tammy lives The Arc mission daily and to its fullest.
Endorsement – Tammy has been a site manager for The Arc for many years and I endorse her nomination for 2016 Leadership Employee of the Year.  She has prover her devotion to the well-being of the ladies on her caseload. She cares a lot for the stability of their lives and has a high standard for how things should be. Tammy is an excellent trainer when she has new staff people at her site and she has also invested thoroughly when she is training employees into leadership positions. She has a lot of creative ability and over the years she has generously shared her skills to the benefit of the constituents of The Arc of Spokane. Most notably, Tammy was at the helm of the South Hill Halloween party every year which gained a reputation at the agency, in the neighborhood, and with people close to the participants as the can’t-miss shindig of the season. The decorations and format every year were top notch. It often took the whole month of October to prepare the house and yard for the party and attendees were never disappointed. It took the sweat equity of a lot of people but it was really Tammy’s enthusiasm for this event that made it happen every year.
